San Diego WATCH
SURVEY
FOR SD COUNTY SUPERVISOR CANDIDATES - Responses SAE comments to SD County Board incumbents : "'Bored' with No Response!" Why Supervisors Do Not Respond To Questionnaires At the beginning of this project SAE entered the project expecting the incumbent supervisors to not respond to our questionnaire. We were not surprised, disappointed yes, surprised, no. Supervisors Greg Cox and Pam Slater-Price never recognized the existence of our hand delivered questionnaire. Supervisor Diane Jacob at least had the class to write that she was too busy to answer SAEs questions. That at least is a recognition SAE exists. In politics relationships are quite often seen as power relationships. It is a known truism that the first duty of a politician is to win re-election. Why take the time to respond to a group which has little money and whose voter base cannot affect the outcome of the incumbents coming election? Its all very rational and wrong. And Why You Should Support Challengers! In SAEs work with other activists we find the activists to be intelligent citizens who are seriously confronting issues demanding attention. These are people who deserve a meaningful hearing. An individual once commented when asked where we will be in ten years, Look at the activist groups, they are tackling societys problems straight on. Their answers will be our solutions. Leo Rosten, mid-twentieth century author in speaking of immigrants to America made the comment, The most important thing is an idea and you never know where the next good idea is coming from. In speaking before the Board of Supervisors one quickly realizes they dont care what ideas you have and good luck trying to meet personally with them. As Bob Dylan once wrote of another group, They dont need you and man they expect the same. If the response of San Diego County Government to running the county appears stagnant there is a reason. In creating an inner circle of political supporters, friends and family and not searching out the opinions of their constituents and community activists board members are limiting the breadth of ideas needed to recognize and solve County problems. What we get is the same old people trying the same old solutions to new problems. For survey response from candidate John Van Doorn, click here.
